Inductive Fallacies

Last round of fallacies, everybody! Choose from the following: if your last name begins with A-H, write a Hasty Generalization; if it begins with I-P, write a False Analogy; if it begins with Q-Z, write a Fallacy of Exclusion. Then, debunk anyone else's argument.

Marcus, from Mississippi, killed his neighbor. All Mississippians are killers.

Employees are like nails. Just as nails must be hit in the head in order to make them work, so must employees.

Mitchell Ledbetter said...

@Nerizza Mississippi's population is almost 3 million people, and Marcus is just one simple man. If only one man out of 3 million kills someone, the odds that Mississippians being all killers is very small.

school hallways are driving a car. there's always people trying to pass you by and some are always on their phone texting not paying attention

Nerizza Angeles said...

@Chauncie since texting in school is not allowed then the argument you are relaying is unrelated to the subject in that which phones aren't allowed to be used in the hallways or at all during school hours

Jimmy, an Alabama fan, wrecked his car. All Alabama fans are bad drivers.

Haley Archer said...

@Axel that was one Pitbull out of thousands, theses are not great odd so not all Pitbulls are killers

Children are like dogs. They need to be housebroken and well disciplined.

@haley. This might have been jimmy's first accident. Also there are a lot of Alabama fans who haven't got in any accident.

Unknown said...

@haley. That was only one Alabama Fan out of so many. So you can't say that all Alabama fan's are bad drivers.

Your favorite food is like your best friend. It brings comfort and happiness to you

@mitchell hitting an employee is not required to make them work, while the purpose of hitting the nail is to make it work

Charlie started smoked a pack of cigarettes daily at age fifteen and lived until he was eighty years old. Therefore, cigarettes are not bad for you.

@Mary Carmen Your favorite food may bring comfort to you but your best friend may not always bring happiness and comfort to you.

He is from china, where most the people are good at math, so he must be good at math.

@ Nerizza Angeles: Your sample is too small to support you conclusion. Maybe Marcus is the only Mississippian who had kill people.

PS. I don't think i know you..........
Who are you?

Dogs are like small children. Because they require around the clock care and you have to clean up after them.

Alondra Torres said...

@Axel Higareda: Maybe the dog attacked the person because he was taunting the pit bull. The dog was just using self defense!

Four out of five doctors recommend Advil. It must be the best.

@leo Not everyone from China is good at math. So maybe he is really bad at it.

Anna Bygrave said...

I was driving through Tennessee and I saw this really bad car wreck. Therefore, all drivers in Tennessee must be bad drivers.

Anna Bygrave said...

@Lauren: there is research that shows that smoking is a leading cause of deaths. Charlie probably lived a very unhealthy life because a pack a day should have affected his lifespan dramatically.

Since he is a democrat , and Obama is a democrat, then he probably voted for Obama.

flann said...

Not one kid in that math class got a question right on the test. That teacher must be terrible.

Ty townes said...

@ Leo just because you live in china doesn't mean you are good at math, because what if you are born on a farm where you have to work and don't get a proper education? Then he might not be good at math.

flann said...

@anna just because there was one bad car wreck in Tennessee doesn't mean all drivers from Tennessee are terrible. The person in the wreck may not have even been from tennessee.

David is from Boston, since most people from Boston are Red Sox fans David must be a red sox fan

Ben is from the United states and Is bad at soccer, therefore all soccer players from the United states are bad.

@connor you do not have to like the sports team from which you are from. It's your decision and maybe you don't like how they play or the coach.

Kristian Haikala said...

There is a bully in my class named Connor, therefore everyone named Connor is a bully.

Kristian Haikala said...

@Flannery that is not at all true. The teacher could be great and she might have taught the stuff very well. But, maybe the kids didn't pay attention in class and then didn't study.

Working at a restaurant is just like one of thuse restaurant games. The tI me just crawls

Tuggle said...

@haikala just because one instance with a guy named Connor shouldn't corrupt your viewpoint on everyoR sharing in a name

I saw a blue locker at the school. All the lockers at that school are blue.

@Nerizza Just because you heard of one bad event with a Mississippian does not mean they are all killers. It is like one out of a million chance of them being a killer.

ALexandra said...

A guy named Brad killed a man. All Brad's must be murderers.

@Haley out of all the people that are Alabama fans, one wrecking his car does not mean they are all bad drivers. tons of other sports fans are terrible drivers too!
